One (Extra)ordinary Weekend at Jakarta Music Con 2024

The weekend of July 13-14, 2024 was quite special for the Asian Creative and Digital Economy Youth Summit (ACE-YS) team for the obvious reason. It’s not every day that you get to attend a music conference and a festival all at once, which means twice the fun!

The sweltering Jakarta heat stood no chance in dampening our excitement as we checked out the Jakarta Music Con (JMC) 2024. The 2-day con/festival was all about music, alright, but it was far from just a showcase of musicians. In fact, the event was meant to be a collaborative space for all elements of the music industry, including artists, communities, fans, businesses, and policymakers.

As a gathering of creatives, JMC 2024 took place at M Bloc Space South Jakarta. The venue is practically known for exuding artsy vibes on a regular basis. Yet during the particular weekend, JMC succeeded in bringing the level up a notch through a series of insightful talks, vibrant creative market, and line up of music performances by local and international musicians.

Joining on the second day of the event, I arrived just in time for the talk Where’s Your Head At: Mental Health in the Music Industry which featured Aldila Karina (Demajors/Synchronize Fest) and Jessica Bunga, also popularly known as Jebung (Acuan Entertainment) as speakers, and Vinny (Menjadi Manusia) as the moderator. It was refreshing to hear the speakers share their unique experience regarding the role of music in maintaining their mental health and how they could better promote the issue in the industry.

I got another surprise as I caught a familiar face in the crowd. As it turned out, an old elementary school friend of mine was one among 10 winners of a free tickets giveaway organized by ACE-YS in collaboration with JMC 2024. Here’s his testimony alongside other ACE-YS team members who had a blast at the event!

“I had so much fun at the JMC 2024. While I didn’t always get the title of the talks at first, they turned out to be very insightful, especially for Indonesian music lovers. Directions to different points of attraction were very clear. The committee also did a good job at building up the artistic feels of the whole space. I’m glad I won the ticket giveaway. Really worth it!”
