The importance of developing the creative and digital economy at the regional level has inspired the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) and Selaksa to initiate the Asian Creative & Digital Youth Economy Summit (ACE-YS) 2023. As one of the world’s emerging economic powerhouses, Asia is becoming increasingly attractive in the global creative economy environment, with its macroeconomic indicators and supporting fundamental aspects. Leveraging the vast market potential in Asia calls for the adoption of innovative and strategic initiatives to seize the prevailing opportunities.
The Asian Creative & Digital Economy Youth Summit (ACE-YS) 2023 serves as a platform to seize these opportunities by facilitating strategic collaboration among stakeholders in this sector. Held on October 28-29, 2023, in Jakarta, Indonesia, ACE-YS is bringing together key stakeholders like , including businesses, investors, communities, and policymakers in the creative and digital economy. This summit is poised to connect young creatives from across Asia to discuss and drive collective action on issues emerging in the creative and digital economy industry, such as the lack of skills, knowledge, networks, global recognition, and connections with investors.
Odo R.M. Manuhutu, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, at Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Republic of Indonesia, emphasizes the importance of cultural diplomacy, which should be a concern for all parties. He states, “The burgeoning opportunities in Asia’s creative and digital economy require the bolstering support of cultural diplomacy. Moreover, this initiative represents the government’s role in facilitating and creating an enabling ecosystem forthe advancement of creative and digital economy, including for the young people. Against this background, we are aligning ACE-YS with the objectives of ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum.”
This initiative has garnered enthusiastic support from Lazada Indonesia, leading to collaboration that positively impacts the ecosystem. Ferry Kusnowo, Executive Director of Lazada Indonesia, asserts that Lazada aims to act as a catalyst in accelerating the growth in digital and creative economiy in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia.
Lazada’s support for ACE-YS reaffirms Lazada’s commitment to spurring economic progress in Southeast Asia through the empowerment of young generations. “We believe that, with Lazada’s extensive network across numerous Southeast Asian nations, we can facilitate ample opportunities for the youth in the region to forge connections and foster collaborations within Lazada’s vibrant creative and digital economy ecosystem,,” says Ferry Kusnowo.
Fadhila Hasna Athaya, Representative of the Steering Committee for ACE-YS, mentions that in its inaugural year, they will focus on exploring the Asian market potential. “ACE-YS is an initiative by young people who want to engage with various stakeholders in the creative and digital ecosystem to meet, share experiences, create collaborations and opportunities, and exchange policy strategies at the national level. The hope is that this platform will further expand networks and collaboration opportunities in various creative sub-sectors.”
Riding the “New Waves from the SEA”, ACE-YS strives to be a hub for youth collective action in mapping and connecting Asian participants in navigating global opportunities in the creative and digital economy, starting from Southeast Asia (SEA). This summit is geared towards promoting a vibrant and sustainable creative and digital economy in Asia by realizing the potential of the young generation and harnessing demographic dividends in the region.
